Graduation Flowers: For the Ceremony, or for the House After

Fig & Bloom

Guide

Practical guidance from the Fig & Bloom studio on ordering, delivery and choosing flowers that still feel designed when they arrive.

Graduation flowers from Fig & Bloom take two sends. Send Marseille in the Gesture size to the home the day before, and the graduate or the family carries it in. The house gets a second send, or a larger size.

Year 12 valedictory and formal season, and many university graduations, sit in November and December. Use the date on the invitation. A courier can reach a house. A courier can't hit a ceremony time, and can't find one person in a crowd.

What are you marking, the ceremony or the house after?

You are marking a public hour and then a private one. The public hour is a gown, a folder, a crowd and a photograph. The private hour is the kitchen when everyone gets home. Those are two sends, not one bunch asked to do both jobs.

This page covers Year 12 valedictory and formal, and a university ceremony. Take the date you were given. Don't build the order around a date you assumed from a school's usual week.

The kind of win, and how a design matches it, sits in our guide to congratulations flowers. This page is only the last metres: how the flowers get from the van to the photograph, and how a second send meets the house.

If you only send one, send it to the house. A photograph can survive without flowers. A room full of the people who did the years with them, with nothing that says you understood, is harder to repair.

What should graduation flowers do?

They stand in for you in the photograph, and then they sit in the house after the gown comes off. The piece in the photograph has to be light enough to hold beside a folder. The piece at home has to still look considered that night.

Pink reads as a celebration. White chrysanthemum can read as funeral flowers, which is the wrong note on a day like this. Choose the celebration, unless a quiet white is exactly what this person wants.

How do the flowers get from the van to the ceremony?

Send Marseille in the Gesture size to the home the day before. It's fresh for seven days under our Triple Guarantee, so the day before is safe. The graduate, or someone in the family who is going, carries it in from that house. Don't send flowers to the ceremony venue.

The house piece is a second send, or a larger size, to the address people come home to. Signature and Statement are those larger sizes. They stay where the van left them.

The van stops at the house. Someone who is going carries the flowers in.

The carry-in The house
What you order Gesture, to the home the day before A second send, or Signature or Statement
Where the van stops The home the graduate will leave from The home people come back to
The last few metres The graduate or the family, in their hands Nobody. It stays where it was left
What fails A ceremony address, a timed drop, a stranger in a crowd One small bunch asked to fill the room afterwards

Which design should you send?

Lead with Marseille, from Congratulations Flowers. Gesture is $155. The photograph is pink and fuchsia roses, snapdragons, gypsophila and a band of small pink flowers, in a pale pink wrap. It is light enough to carry, and it reads as a celebration against a gown.

Signature is $220 and Statement is $275 if the house send needs more presence. You can also order Gesture twice: one to carry in, one that stays home. Two sends still means two jobs.

Pyrenees is the all-white design, Gesture from $135. The white chrysanthemum can read as funeral flowers. Leave it unless that quiet white is the look you actually want. It is a second choice, not the one to lead with.

What should the card say?

The card is printed from what you type at checkout. One or two sentences, in your words. Name the person and the work. "This was yours. We are proud of you." is enough for the photograph.

If you are sending two orders, the house card can hold the longer line: the degree, the year, the hard part you watched. A line that could sit on any graduate's lap is too long and too empty. More shapes are in what to write on a flower card.

What should you do next?

Decide the two sends, then the date on the invitation, then the card.

  1. Take the date from the invitation. Year 12 or university, same method.
  2. Order Marseille in Gesture to the home, for the day before the ceremony or formal.
  3. Order the house piece as a second send, or choose Signature or Statement if one larger design is doing the house job only.
  4. Type the card at checkout. Keep the carry-in card short.
  5. Order before 1pm local time, Monday to Saturday, for same-day hand-delivery in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. We don't deliver on Sundays. If the day before falls on a Sunday, choose Saturday. Saturday delivery runs in all three cities, but our Bowen Hills studio in Brisbane is closed for collection on Saturdays.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a vase for the photographs?

No. Gesture is wrapped to be held, so leave any vase at the house. The carry-in bunch is for a hand, not a table.

What if I live in another city and can't be there?

Send Gesture to the person who is going, at the home they will leave from. They carry it in. You don't have to meet the van yourself.

What if the formal and the family lunch are on different days?

Use two dates. The carry-in send is for the day of the formal or ceremony. The house send is for the day people are actually home.

Can someone collect the flowers from the studio?

Yes. Collection is free from the studio that made the order: Fairfield in Melbourne, Camperdown in Sydney, or Bowen Hills in Brisbane. Bowen Hills is closed on Saturdays, so plan a Brisbane collection for a weekday. Studio hours are in our FAQ. Someone still has to carry the flowers in. Collecting them doesn't get them to a ceremony on their own.

Can you deliver flowers to a graduation ceremony venue?

No. A courier can't hit a ceremony time or find one person in a crowd. Send Marseille in Gesture to the home the day before, and have the graduate or family carry it in.

How much are graduation flowers?

Marseille is $155 in Gesture, $220 in Signature and $275 in Statement. Pyrenees, the all-white design, starts at $135 in Gesture. The delivery fee for the address is shown at checkout.
