What contemporary floral design means at Fig & Bloom
Traditional floristry aims for symmetry: a dome of blooms, evenly spaced, every gap filled. Contemporary design works differently. We treat each arrangement as a small piece of sculpture — asymmetric lines, varied stem heights, movement, and room for each flower to be seen. The result feels gathered rather than manufactured, closer to what you'd find in a design studio than a supermarket.

Four principles shape every Fig & Bloom design. Colour: palettes are built like a fashion collection — tonal layers or deliberate contrast, never a random mix. Form: line flowers, focal blooms and textural elements each have a role, arranged with intent. Negative space: we leave air between stems so shapes read clearly; density is a choice, not a default. How we wrap bouquets, and why
Wrapping is part of the design, not packaging. Bouquets are finished in layered premium paper with a clean silhouette that protects the stems and frames the arrangement, so the moment of handover looks as considered as the flowers themselves. Vase arrangements arrive aqua-packed and ready to place.

Fig & Bloom was founded in 2015 by Kellie Brown and Daniel Groch. Kellie came to floristry from a career in fashion, and that training shows in the studio's approach: palettes composed like collections, silhouettes considered from every angle, and a bias toward restraint over filler. Her design principles guide every florist across our three studios.
